3 Days Gorillas Tracking in Bwindi Profile


Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda protects half of the world’s population of the critically endangered mountain gorillas and the rain forest has some of the richest populations of trees, small mammals, birds, butterflies, reptiles and moths.

Day 1: Kampala/Bwindi

Departing Kampala early in the morning you drive southwest and cross the Equator through Savannah grasslands seeing banana plantations and heads of Ankole cattle with their incredibly long Curving horns. You then descend into Kigezi Highlands known as the Switzerland of Africa with terraced farming and Mountain Scenery to nearby gorilla Sanctuary. Overnight at a tented camp.


Day 2: Bwindi Impenetrable NP (Tracking Mountain Gorillas)

After an early breakfast, you depart for the park headquarters and with your guides embark on the trek to track the rare mountain gorillas. Gorilla trekking is somehow challenging due to the difficult terrains, rain and mist hence it may take 4 – 8 hours depending on how far the Gorillas families are from the park headquarters; but on finding them you will have a very exciting memorable experience with them. The opportunity of spending some time with these tranquil giants is such a wonderful encounter that will certainly overwhelm you. These gorillas are timid and very peaceful and it is a very unforgettable experience as you observe and even take photos of them. Bwindi Rain Forest provide ideal habitat for a variety of bird species with hundreds of bird species recorded such as blue-headed sunbird, hornbills, African emerald cuckoo, turacos, short-tailed warbler, Black and Cinnamon-chested Bee-eaters, Western Green Tinkerbird just but a few. Along with the mountain gorillas, the park provides shelter to other animal species such as African elephants, chimpanzee, baboons, black and white colobus, red-tailed monkeys, giant golden cat, African civet among others. Dinner and overnight at your camp.


Day 3: Bwindi/Kampala

After breakfast, you depart the impenetrable forest of Bwindi and head back toward the capital city, Kampala for drop off at your hotel.
